My story

Welcome! I'm Hattie, and I'm glad you're here. Bearing witness to my clients and their stories is work I am honored to do. I've worked across the mental health spectrum as a crisis responder, group facilitator, and individual therapist in community mental health and group practices before founding Hattie Stein Counseling in 2025.

I actually didn't set out to specialize in men's therapy. I stumbled into it and never looked back.
Over the years, I found that many of my clients were men and I discovered how much I value the work we do together. I enjoy working with clients who want more than quick fixes and are willing to examine patterns, deepen self-awareness, and build healthier relationships. I appreciate the practical and thoughtful way many men approach therapy, and I find it especially rewarding to help you move beyond simply managing problems and toward deeper healing and connection. My clinical experience, personal life, and marriage have all contributed to a genuine passion for supporting men's mental health.
At the same time, I know men are often reluctant to ask for help, oftentimes putting it off for years. The idea of no longer handling it all on your own can be scary. But if you're like many of the men sitting in my office, you've been struggling more than you let on. And you deserve all the support you can get.

I help clients navigate stress and anxiety, anger and mood concerns, relationship and attachment issues, dating and breakups, self-esteem, perfectionism, and major life transitions. Whether you're feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or simply ready for something to change, therapy can provide a space to better understand yourself and move forward with greater clarity and confidence. If this resonates with you, I'd love to connect.

FAQ's
What kind of therapy do you provide?
I work with adult individuals across the lifespan and specialize in a unique blend of CBT, mindfulness, existential and relational therapy, and psychodynamic influences.
What can I expect in session?
The first few sessions will focus on your goals for therapy and understanding significant events and relationships that have shaped the person you are today. From there, I help you understand how your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors influence one another and steps towards change. And while action is essential to progress, therapy is also about looking inward. I help clients connect with themselves on a deeper level to hopefully gain an appreciation for their inner world (and maybe even those of others).

While growth is uncomfortable, therapy should feel like a safe space to be yourself. I listen deeply and care about your story and how you got here. And, I believe humor is a wonderful tool to get through hard times and the challenging sessions.

What insurance do you take?
I am in network with most Blue Cross and Blue Shield, Aetna, and Cigna plans. For out of network clients looking to work with me, I am able to provide what is called a superbill for you to submit to your insurance.

Is in-person better than virtual?
Not necessarily. I do recommend in-person for those without privacy at home or otherwise need to limit distractions. Each offer unique benefits and I enjoy providing both!

Do you only work with men?
While I primarily specialize in men's issues and reserve much of my practice for men, I also work with women depending on availability. Ultimately, I'm happy to work with anyone who resonates with my approach and feels we're a good fit.
